The DEFA-Studio for Animated Films

The permanent exhibition maintained by the German Institute for Animated Film (DIAF) documents the work of the DEFA-Studio for Animated Films that from 1955 to 1990 produced films in all classical animation techniques in Dresden-Gorbitz. 

More than 100 puppet figures and props, drawing transparencies, two-dimensional and silhouette figures are testimonies to the highlights of 35 years of animated film history, luring visitors into the artistic fairy-tale worlds and satires produced by Dresden’s animated film factory. The exhibition demonstrates the work steps involved in producing an animated film, from drafting the animated figures, to the individual phases of sequence of motion, all the way to the completed film. 

In regular special exhibitions, the DIAF also presents positions of historical and contemporary, national and international animated film at the same location.
